Auricular Reflexology

Auricular or Ear Reflexology works in a similar way to foot, hand and facial reflexology. The whole body is mirrored onto each ear in the shape of an inverted fetus. Using an ear map, specific points are located on the outer ear and stimulated to encourage the body to balance and heal itself.  Ear reflexes include points for every body part, organ and gland.  The ear lobe represents the head, the inner firm cartilage rim represents the spine, the outer softer cartilage represents the structural body and all the internal organs are in the concha.

Auricular therapy was developed in France by Dr Paul Nogier, known as the 'Father of Auriculotherapy'. In 1957 he documented a complete reflex map of the human body located on the outer ear.  In 1959 researchers in China validated Dr. Nogier’s reflex map whilst at the same time they discovered a second, equally effective reflex map on the outer ear.  Many auricular points have now been standardised by the World Health Organization and they have published a very comprehensive ear map.

Ear reflexology can help with the relief of headaches, migraines, neck and shoulder pain, insomnia, stress, anxiety, digestive issues, allergies, addictions, an enhanced immune system, pain relief and much more.

The first part of the treatment includes a therapeutic head and ear massage which activates the ear by invigorating blood circulation and increasing energy flow (Qi energy) to the area, making the entire treatment more effective.

The ear seeds can then be applied to specific points on the outer ear.  Ear seeds or acupressure seeds are tiny pressure balls that stick onto the ear with a small clear or skin coloured plaster.  They apply pressure onto the ear points and can be left on the ear for 3 to 5 days.  They help to stimulate the selected points allowing healing to take place. The ear seeds can be pressed to further stimulate and boost the effects.

The application of ear seeds can also be a stand alone treatment without the head and ear massage if preferred, or as an addition to any other reflexology treatment.
